COMMISSION ON THE ARTS

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 5:02 pm by Chair Lewis. Members present were
Joel Jacobsen, Chris Sutch, and Andrew Zehr.
Public Forum
There was not one present for the Public Forum.
Approval of Minutes
It was moved by Zehr that the minutes of the November 3, 2012 meeting be approved.
Jacobsen seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
New Business
The annual grant recommendations for 2013/2014 were recommended and acted
upon.
o Town & Gown: Sutch recommended $15,691.40. Zehr seconded.
Motion declared carried unanimously.
o Ames Choral Society: Zehr recommended $2,476.00. Jacobsen
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o Ames Community Arts Council: Jacobsen recommended $7,982.
Sutch seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o Ames Children’s Choir: Zehr recommended $9,743.60. Jacobsen
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o Ames Chamber Artists: Sutch recommended $2,246. Zehr seconded.
Motion carried unanimously.
o India Cultural Association: Jacobsen recommended $1,780. Zehr
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o The Octagon: Sutch recommended $44,136.20. Jacobsen seconded.
Motion declared carried unanimously.
o Story Theater Company: Zehr recommended $8,716. Sutch
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o Central Iowa Symphony: Sutch recommended $9,974.80. Motion
carried unanimously.
o Friends of Ames Strings: Zehr recommended $1,180. Sutch
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o AIOFA: Jacobsen recommended $7,996. Zehr seconded. Motion
carried unanimously.
o Kids Co’Motion: Sutch recommended $3,103.40. Zehr seconded.
Motion carried unanimously.
o Stars Over Veishea (theater): Zehr recommended $3,310.20. Sutch
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o Co’Motion Dance: Jacobsen recommended $5,488.60. Sutch
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
o ACTORS: Jacobsen recommended $13,542.80. Zehr seconded.
Motion carried unanimously.
After voting for the funding listed, there is $3,511.40 in reserved for special project
grants.
Paragraph Discussion
For the paragraphs, it was decided that the descriptions that each organization included
in its grant application would serve as the template for the paragraphs to be presented
to the City Council.
Here is the list of paragraph assignments:
• Jacobsen Octagon, ACAC, Friends of Ames Strings
• Zehr SOV, Ames Town and Gown and Ames Choral Society
• Sutch ACTORS, Central Iowa Symphony, India Cultural Artists
• Lewis Kids Co'Motion, Co'Motion Dance, Story Theater Company
• Zywicki AIFOA, Ames Children's Choir and Ames Chamber Artists
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council
Chambers at City Hall.
Sutch moved to adjourn. The meeting ended at 5:22 p.m.
