COMMISSION ON THE ARTS
June 4, 2012
The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Acting Chair Joel Jacobsen. Members
present were Christopher Sutch, Andrew Zehr, and Craig Zywicki.
Public Forum
No one was present for Public Forum.
Approval of Minutes
Moved by Zehr, seconded by Zywicki to approve the minutes from the April 2, 2012
meeting. Motion carried unanimously.
New Business
The Commission reviewed the dates listed on the July-December Calendar. There was
discussion regarding the date for the Annual Grant hearings. It was noted that there was
a preference by Fred and Craig to hold the hearings on November 3. However, that
date is an Iowa State home football weekend. Craig suggested that if the hearings were
early enough in the day, it would be possible to finish before the game started, since the
earliest a football games begin at 11:00 a.m. Staff person Brian Phillips noted that the
Commission could set November 3 as the date and set the time later, when the football
time schedule is released.
Moved by Sutch and seconded by Zehr that November 3 be set as the date for the
annual grant hearings and that the time be set at a future meeting . Motion carried
unanimously.
Staff person Brian Phillips noted that Assistant City Manager Melissa Mundt would
begin in mid-June at the City. She will likely be staffing the Commission in the future.
Commissioner Sutch noted that the full calendar had not been approved. Moved by
Sutch and seconded by Zywicki to approve the full Commission Calendar for Ju ly-
December. Motion carried unanimously.
The Commission will next meet on August 6, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
Commissioner Zywicki moved to adjourn. The Commission adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
