Approval of April 4, 2016 Minutes
Commissioner Lockhart moved the April minutes be approved. Commissioner Foley seconded.
The motion carried unanimously.
Fall Special Project Grant Hearings
ACAC – Jennifer Brockpahler was present to represent ACAC. The request is to add a music
component to the studio tour. Additionally, the funds will be used to advertise on the radio.
ACTORS – Stan Rabe indicated ACTORS was interested in social media advertising. The goal
of the funding would be to use social media to advertise to a different group of people than
those who read the newspaper and listen to KASI. Social media advertising would also provide
a way to reach a larger audience outside the City of Ames. This is beyond the normal
advertising budget for ACTORS. At the request of Commissioner Lockhart, Mr. Rabe indicated
the intent is to use Facebook advertising, which could be measured by the number of click-
throughs.
India Cultural Association – Usha Sivaskandan explained that funding was requested from
COTA for a classical dance performance. The intent would be for the performance group to be
brought to Ames, since it is being performed in Des Moines around the same time.
Octagon – Heather Johnson described a special event to take place in conjunction with the 50th
anniversary of the Octagon. One of the original Octagon founders was a puppeteer. In
recognition of that fact, a puppeteer performance and puppet-making workshops would take
place.
Brian indicated that the Commission members will receive a spreadsheet to input their
recommendations in, prior to the next meeting.

The next scheduled meeting of the Commission is June 6, 2016.
