COMMISSION ON THE ARTS

Monday, April 4, 2016
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. by Temporary Chair Steve Sullivan. Members
present were Jon Foley, Connie Garnett, and Jason Paull.
The commission opened Connie Garnett nominated Steve Sullivan for chair. The motion was
seconded by Jon Foley. Nominations ceased and the motion was moved to a vote. Steve was
elected unanimously.
Chair Sullivan asked Jason Paull to introduce himself to the group.
Public Forum
Stan Rabe invited the COTA members and the attendees to an ACTORS performance of the
play “Wait Until Dark.”
Jennifer Brockpahler of Ames Community Arts Council announced its Arts Award Celebration
will be held April 17 and is open to everyone. She reminded the commission the closing date
for entries to the Studio Tour is the Mary 13 closing date for artistic presentations in the studio
tour. The tour will take place on Oct 8.
Approval of February 1, 2016 Minutes
Jon Foley moved the March minutes be approved. Connie Garnett seconded. The motion
carried unanimously.
Fall Special Project Grant Workshop
Cathy Gersema conducted the workshop and reviewed the application form.
Approval of July - December Calendar
A suggested list of calendar dates for meetings, applications, and decisions was presented.
Jason moved the calendar dates be approved. Jon seconded
Jason told the commission that he still serves on the ACTORS Board. He will recuse himself
from voting on any ACTORS requests.
Upcoming Meetings/Important Dates
Special project grants for fall need to be turned in on or before April 15.
The next scheduled meeting of the commission is May 2, 2016.
Adjournment
Steve thanked the attendees for coming and for how they enriched the community.
Jon Foley moved the meeting be adjourned. Mr. Sullivan declared the meeting adjourned at
5:24 p.m.
