COMMISSION ON THE ARTS

Monday, June 5, 2017
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chair Steve Sullivan. Members present were Jason
Paull and Tom Lockhart. Deanne Brill and Jon Foley were not present.
Public Forum
Sara from Ames Community Arts Council was present to thank COTA for funding. A Creative
Professional Practice Series was held in April. Another session will be held tomorrow at the Octagon
from 6-8 p.m. and will cover ways in which to teach an arts class. The monthly gathering of artists
will be Tuesday the 20th of June at Worldly Goods from 6-8 p.m.
Approval of May 1, 2017 Minutes
Moved by Jason, seconded by Tom, to approve the minutes of the May 1, 2017 meeting. Motion
carried unanimously.
Fall Special Project Grant Recommendations
It was moved by Tom, seconded by Jason, to approve a recommendation of $1,000 for each
proposed program. Motion carried unanimously.
Jon Foley arrived at 5:04 p.m.
Discussion of Annual Application and Reporting Materials
Steve noted he had not yet consolidated his changes. Steve will do so later this week and it can be
discussed at the next meeting. Jason asked whether a public hearing or feedback session should be
set up at a future meeting. Steve suggested having the draft prepared by the July meeting, with a
feedback session in August.
Upcoming Important Dates
The final reports will be reviewed by the Commission as they are collected. Steve noted the next
meeting was July 10th, not July 3rd.

Jason moved the meeting be adjourned. The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
