HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Civil Service Commission Minutes 05/31/2017MINUTES OF THE AMES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
AMES, IOWA MAY 31, 2017
The Ames Civil Service Commission convened in special session at 3:00 p.m. on May 31, 2017, in
the Council Chambers of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue. Because it was impractical for the
Commission members to be present in person, Commission Members Mike Crum and Harold Pike
were brought into the meeting telephonically. Commission Member Charlie Ricketts did not
participate. Human Resources Director Kaila Kenjar attended the meeting.
REQUEST TO ABOLISH ENTRY-LEVEL CERTIFIED LIST FOR PLANNER: Human
Resources Director Kenjar explained that the current list, which was certified on June 23, 2016, had
four candidates on it – one of whom was hired for the open Planner position. This list is still active
with three candidates. Currently, there is a vacancy for another Planner. The hiring department
contacted two of the candidates, and they indicated that they were no longer interested in the
position.
The Commission’s adopted Policies and Procedures provides for the abolishment of an entry-level
list when the list has diminished to three or fewer eligible candidates. With only one candidate
remaining, the Planning and Housing director wishes to go back out for a competitive list.
Moved by Pike, seconded by Crum, to grant the request to abolish the entry-level certified for
Planner.
Vote on Motion: 2-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
COMMENTS: The Commission members were reminded that the next regular meeting will be held
on June 22, 2017.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 3:02 p.m.
