AMES, IOWA APRIL 26, 2018
The Ames Civil Service Commission met in regular session at 8:15 a.m. on April 26, 2018, in the
Council Chambers of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, with Commission Members Mike Crum and
Harold Pike present. Because it was impractical Commission Member Charlie Ricketts to be present
in person, he was brought into the meeting telephonically. Also in attendance was Human
Resources Director Kaila Boothroy.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Moved by Pike, seconded by Ricketts, to elect Mike Crum as chair
of the Civil Service Commission.
Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
Moved by Crum, seconded by Ricketts, to elect Harold Pike as vice chair of the Civil Service
Commission.
Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Moved by Crum, seconded by Pike, to approve the minutes of the
March 22, 2018, Civil Service Commission meeting as written.
Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
CERTIFICATION OF ENTRY-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Ricketts, seconded by Pike,
to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as entry-level applicants:

CERTIFICATION OF PROMOTIONAL-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Crum, seconded
by Pike, to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as promotional-level
applicants:

Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
COMMENTS: Chairman Crum stated that, on behalf of the Commission, he wished to thank Jill
Ripperger for service to the Civil Service Commission. She will be retiring on April 30, 2018.
Human Resources Director Kaila Boothroy indicated that she is leaving her position as Human
Resources director. Assistant City Manager Bob Kindred will assume her role during the interim
as the City searches for her replacement.
The next regularly scheduled Civil Service Commission meeting was set for May 24, 2018, at
8:15 a.m.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 8:25 a.m.
