AMES, IOWA JULY 25, 2019
The Regular Session of the Ames Civil Service Commission was called to order by Chairperson Mike
Crum at 8:15 a.m. on July 25, 2019. As it was impractical for the Commission members to attend
in person, Commission Chairperson Mike Crum and Commission Members Harold Pike and Charlie
Ricketts were brought in telephonically.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MAY 23, 2019, REGULAR MEETING: Moved by Pike,
seconded by Ricketts, to approve the Minutes of the May 23, 2019, Regular Civil Service
Commission meeting, as written.
Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
CERTIFICATION OF ENTRY-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Crum, seconded by Ricketts,
to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Entry-Level Applicants:
Human Resources Officer I Sheila Lane 78
Joshua Schumm 70
Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
CERTIFICATION OF PROMOTIONAL-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Pike, seconded by
Crum, to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Promotional-Level Applicants:
Fire Lieutenant Dustyn Turner 81*
Brandon Hendrick 77
Chad Bundy 74*
Matthew Thompson 74*
James Kraby 71
*Includes preference points.
Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
COMMENTS: At the inquiry from Commission Member Pike, Human Resources Director Bethany
Jorgenson advised that there are currently two openings for the Fire Lieutenant position. Two candidates
will be selected to be promoted. She further stated that there is also an employee who wishes to
voluntarily demote to the position of Lieutenant, and Human Resources has been notified of such desire.
That person will be considered alongside the candidates on the certified list, but will not actually be
added to the list.
The next Civil Service Commission meeting will be August 22, 2019, at 8:15 a.m.
ADJOURNMENT: Moved by Crum to adjourn the meeting at 8:18 a.m.
