Update on the property at 1107 Grand Avenue Sara Van Meeteren gave a recap. The 90 day extension given to the property owner to have the garage demolished has expired. The City is proceeding with the demolition. The Finance Department has put out a request for proposal for the demolition. The contract will be awarded next week and the garage will be demolished in the near future. New Business A. Discussion concerning the Dangerous Building Declaration and authorization of demolition or other abatement action on the house at 4100 Dawes Drive Sara Van Meeteren summarized the situation. There was a structure fire at the property in March. At that time, there were people living in the house who were not the owners, but were somehow related to the owner, and assumed they would be in possession of the property when the owner passed. There were two owners who had originally purchased the property together approximately thirty years ago. One passed away a couple of years ago. The other owner, Patrick Klingseis, was not aware that he was still on the deed and was surprised that the property was still in his name. Klingseis is in a nursing home and Van Meeteren has been dealing with his Power of Attorney, Jodi Cory. The other owner owedmoney on the property, which Klingseisis not going to payoff. Klingseis has no interest in being involved with the property, so the property is going into foreclosure and going back to the bank. Jodi Cory gave Van Meeteren permission to do whatever needed to be done with the property.Van Meeteren contacted the bank to make them aware of the status of the property. Van Meeteren had gone to the property and taken pictures. When she returned a couple of weeks later, the building was still collapsing. There was evidence that people had beenin the structure. When the building had been posted as a Dangerous Building, caution tape was put on the overhead garage door and the man door. When shereturned to the property, some of the tape had been removed. The building is very dangerous and is a concern for the neighborhood. If the City proceeds with the demolition, the fees for the demolition would be assessedback to owner. Moved by Haselhoff, seconded by Carnes, to authorize the demolition of 4100 Dawes Drive Vote on Motion: 4-0. Motion passed unanimously. Board or Staff Comments Scott Ripperger had a few comments:The 2015 International Codes have gone into effect as of July 1, 2017. Candidates are being reviewed for the open Building Official position. The Board will need to elect officers at the next meeting. Adjournment Moved by Mott to adjourn the meeting at 4:20p.m. ___________________________ Eileen Carter, Recording Secretary
