Minutes of the Special Meeting
July 31, 2013
The Ames Public Library (APL) Board of Trustees met in special session on Thursday, July 31,
2013, in the Library Conference Room at 620 Lincoln Way, Suite 4, with Bradley, Briese, Budd,
Eason, Manus, Meier, and Stow in attendance. Trustees Acker and Campbell were excused.
Call to Order: Board President Stow called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and introduced
the City’s Public Relations Officer Susan Gwiasda and Tribune reporter James Heggen.
Library Director Search:
Moved by Bradley, seconded by Eason, to adopt a resolution approving the
appointment of Lynne Carey as Library Director under the terms of the signed
agreement.
Stow read the contents of the employment offer letter, which indicated that Carey’s start date
would be August 1, 2013, at a rate of $115,000. Carey is also expected to enroll in an
accredited program and obtain a Master of Library Science degree by the State Librarian’s
deadline of December 31, 2017.
Roll Call Vote: 6-0. Motion carried unanimously. Resolution adopted.
Stow reminded the trustees of the special meeting scheduled on August 8 to discuss the bids
received earlier in the day for the Wood Window Restoration Project.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned by consensus at 5:33 p.m.
A special meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on August 8, 2013, in City Hall Conference Room
135, 515 Clark Avenue.
The next regular meeting will be on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council
Chambers, 515 Clark Avenue.
