Minutes of the Special Meeting
July 24, 2013
The Ames Public Library (APL) Board of Trustees met in special session on Thursday, August
8, 2013, in the Library Conference Room at 620 Lincoln Way, Suite 4, with Acker, Bradley,
Briese, Eason, Meier, and Stow in attendance. Library Administrative Assistant Thompson was
also present. Trustees Budd, Campbell, and Manus were excused.
Call to Order: Board President Stow called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
Library Director Search:
Moved by Eason, seconded by Meier, to authorize the President of the Board of
Trustees to offer the Library Director position to a candidate.
Stow stated that the City’s Human Resources Department had received signed requests from
Jana Prock and Lynne Carey to close the meeting under the provisions of Iowa Code Section
21.5(1)(i).
Moved by Bradley, seconded by Eason, to close the meeting under the provisions of
Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(i), for the purpose of discussing the professional
competency of an individual whose hiring is being considered.
Roll Call Vote: 6-0. (Voting in favor: Acker, Bradley, Briese, Eason, Meier, Stow)
Motion carried unanimously.
The meeting was closed at 5:32 p.m. and Thompson left the room.
The meeting was re-opened at 5:55 p.m.
There was discussion on salary parameters, using information provided by City Human
Resources Director Huisman and Assistant City Manager Mundt. The relevance of a Master of
Library Science degree was considered as a factor.
Vote on Motion: 6-0. Motion carried unanimously.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned by consent at 6:10 p.m.
Special meetings are scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2013, in the Library
Conference Room at 620 Lincoln Way, Suite 4, and at 5:30 p.m. on August 8, 2013, in City Hall
Conference Room 135, 515 Clark Avenue.
The next regular meeting will be on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council
Chambers, 515 Clark Avenue.
