B) CAF – Ames Jaycees Request for Use of Bandshell Park and Waiver of Fees
King gave an overview of the history of this event which goes back to 2003. The group is planning
five events this year. The other aspects of the agreement remain very similar to past years.
Sarah Spotts, (2015 Chapter President of the Ames Junior Chamber)
Spotts requested a waiver of the alcohol ordinance for Bandshell Park as well as a waiver of the 10%
commission on sales (as stated in the vending policy) for the Ames on the Half Shell events. These
requests are included in the CAF. She informed the Commission that the admission fees go directly
to the band and the other funds raised are used for projects throughout the community.
Motion by Milleman, second by Rowan to approve Alternative 1.
Discussion: Milleman thanked the group for all they do in the community.
Motion Approved
C) Discussion – Brookside Little League Baseball Fields
Thompson reported on a meeting between the President of Ames Little League, Abraham and
himself. The group discussed expectations, usage and responsibilities with regards to the two little
league fields and the batting cages in Brookside Park and the one field in River Valley Park.
D) Update – Sand Volleyball Court Lights at Inis Grove Park
Abraham stated that the bid for lights came in over budget. Staff is evaluating other projects in the
current budget and prioritizing them so the department can continue to move forward with this project.
The courts themselves could be done by early June; contractors will have until August 31 to install the
lighting. There will also be some public input sessions on the parking issues in the area near the
park.
E) Update – Pools
A meeting will be scheduled with representatives from the school district and the city to discuss going
forward. There will be public input sessions with both competitive and recreational swimming. There
may be a need for a feasibility study on the costs to run, the current programming and what could be
added. After these steps all parties need to sit down and figure out what is best for the community.
Abraham stated that the current shared use agreement has room for improvement and would not be
the model for any new shared facility.
MONTHLY REPORT
Omlid stated that summer season passes are now on sale at the discounted price. The discount will
run through May 15. Municipal pool will be closed for one week for scheduled repairs.
Thompson stated that the Oak Savanna project will start April 6. There will also be the removal of
some invasive species next to this project and replace with native species opening up the view of the
lake in the area near this project.
