TRANSPORTATION POLICY COMMITTEE ACTION FORM
BACKGROUND:
Each year, the Ames Area MPO (AAMPO) is required to appoint primary and alternate
representatives to the Central Iowa Regional Transportation Planning Alliance’s (CIRTPA's)
Transportation Policy Committee (TPC) and Transportation Technical Committee (TTC). Since
the AAMPO is an advisory member of CIRTPA, these are non-voting positions.
CIRTPA is the designated regional transportation planning agency for the eight-county central
Iowa area outside the AAMPO and Des Moines Area MPO boundaries, coordinating
transportation planning and federal funding decisions for that region.
It is recommended that the AAMPO’s designated representatives for calendar year 2027
be as follows:
Primary Representative: Kyle Thompson, AAMPO Transportation Planner
Alternate Representative: Justin Clausen, AAMPO Executive Director
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Appoint Kyle Thompson as primary 2027 AAMPO representative and Justin Clausen as
alternate 2027 AAMPO representative to the Central Iowa Regional Transportation
Planning Alliance (CIRTPA) Committees.
2. Appoint different individuals to serve as primary and alternate representatives.
MPO DIRECTOR'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Kyle Thompson and Justin Clausen are familiar with AAMPO's transportation planning
priorities and are well-positioned to represent AAMPO's interests on CIRTPA's
committees in 2027. Therefore, it is the recommendation of the MPO Executive Director that
the Transportation Policy Committee adopt Alternative No. 1, as noted above.
