HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - AIPCA Meeting Minutes from September 19, 2024AIPCA Meeting Minutes –September 19, 2024 Attendees: Karla McCollum, Cindy Hicks, Laura Hansen, Katrina Harden Williams, Michael Abrams, Valerie Stallbaumer, Nicki Mackey. Meeting was called to order at 5:30pm by Karla McCollum, President. I. Minutes were approved. Michael expressed desire to indicate that our wine fest would “not be as large.” II. Treasurer Report • No notes to report. iii. Koshu Youth Trip Delegate Update. • Students were excited about their trip. Nine of eleven students gave feedback on their experiences. They wore tee-shirts that were made by an Ames middle school teacher. • Katrina showed a photo booklet created by a host family and showed shared activities with the Ames students. One activity was picking peaches. Another was making bento boxes. The students were interviewed in an English class. • A Facebook account stores the photos. The City of Ames AIPCA website has the July Japan trip information. Laura suggested that we could put all our digital information and photos in a City of Ames website. • Katrina said that three host families shared dinners and evening activities. • Karla said that we need to ask about other issues that we may need to deal with on future trips to Japan—due to one student who did not dress appropriately. IV. Koshu-Ames Business • Michael reported that he hopes to meet with Rita at the Iowa State University (ISU) bookstore to see about future business with Koshu. V. Annual AIPCA Picnic Summary. • The picnic went well; how 11 students enjoyed and learned from their trip to Koshu was shared. Mayor Haila was impressed with what the students had to report. VI. Koshu October Visit—October 13- 18, 2024 • Laura reviewed the itinerary; Monday events were not yet finalized. • Valerie gathered gifts. Nicki organized the bus to pick delegates up from the airport and drop them off on the return trip. She also organized a van for transporting adults. Valerie coordinated HIRTA buses to meet at the Middle School for everyone to go to Fellows Elementary for Wednesday. • Marina worked with ISU Japanese Association of Students to plan a banquet meal and entertainment for Wednesday night. • Nicki organized the ISU visit for Thursday AM and Valerie arranged for all to go to Center Grove Orchard for the final meal together with host families. • Cindy coordinated a visit to Downtown Ames on Tuesday. • The costs of the banquet, Center Grove visit, and Friley Hall lunch on Thursday were discussed. Meeting was adjourned at 6:55pm.
