Attendees: Karla McCollum, Marina Kraeva, Laura Hansen, Katrina Harden Williams, Michael Abrams,
Valerie Stallbaumer, Nicki Mackey.
Meeting was called to order at 5:31pm by Karla McCollum, president.
I. July Minutes were approved with one correction. Marina K said that the Japanese students
may go to France in 2025, not Katrina.
II. Treasurer Report
• Membership checks should be written to: AIPCA Inc. $25 is the membership fee.
• Treasurer report was approved by Marina.
iii. Koshu Youth Trip Delegate Update.
• Students were excited about their trip. Nine of eleven students gave feedback on their
experiences. They wore tee-shirts that were made by an Ames middle school teacher.
• Katrina showed a photo booklet created by a host family and showed shared activities
with the Ames students. One activity was picking peaches. Another was making bento
boxes. The students were interviewed in an English class.
• A Facebook account stores the photos. The City of Ames AIPCA website has the July Japan
trip information. Laura suggested that we could put all our digital information and photos
in a City of Ames website.
• Katrina said that three host families shared dinners and evening activities.
• Karla said that we need to ask about other issues that we may need to deal with on future
trips to Japan—due to one student who did not dress appropriately.
IV. Koshu-Ames Business
• Michael reported that some Ames business owners will sell Koshu items in the future.
• A festival of wines is being planned, similar to the Des Moines Wine Festival.
V. Annual AIPCA Picnic Summary.
• Marina has collected Invitation answers and will turn those in.
• Valerie ordered the food items from Hickory Park based on the expected 48 people.
• Valerie and Marina will pick up the food and bring it all to the Reiman Gardens Speer
Room by 3:30pm. Katrina will have the students who attend to tell about their trip.
VI. Koshu October Visit—October 13- 18, 2024
• Katrina met some of the women who will come here in October.
• Laura is compiling a new “profile sheet” for the Japanese Student Delegates who are
coming to Ames, using a sample form of Katrina’s design.
• Laura summarized the week’s activities that are being planned so far.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:38pm.
