Attendees: Cynthia Hicks (recent Board President), Marina Kraeva, Laura Hansen (new Board
member), Kartrina Harden Williams, Nicky Mackey, Michael Abrams, Valerie Stallbaumer (joined later).
Meeting was directed by Marina, since Cindy had to leave. Meeting began at 5:38pm
Absent: Calli Sandal (recent secretary), Karla McCollum (newly appointed president, former treasurer)
I. Introductions
• Laura Hansen introduced herself as a new Board member and shared her background.
• Katrina Harden Williams introduced herself and her role in the middle school.
• Nicky Mackey introduced herself and her experience on the Board.
II. Old Business
• March Minutes: The Board approved (Laura approved, Nicky second it)
the March minutes with a correction regarding the treasurer’s report.
(See Treasurer’s report by Karla McCollum—May 10, 2024)
Though, Michel said that we should set aside the treasurer’s report since we had
some questions about it.
• Karla will be president and Valerie will be secretary. Cindy, Board president, resigned
effective July 1, to work her advanced degree. Calli, Board secretary, announced her
resignation since she is moving out of town.
• Someone mentioned that the AIPCA email address need to be accessed by more than
one person.
III. New Business
• KOSHU Youth Trip—Katrina Harden Williams, trip leader, provided an update.
Two chaperones have been identified
Students receiving full scholarships were chosen based on eligibility for free/ reduced
school lunches. Cindy Hicks will send emails to the parents of the scholarship
recipients.
• On April 30, Katrina notified the youth delegates of the families in Japan they will be
with so they can begin to get acquainted via computer access.
• Laura H, Nicky M, and Valerie S volunteered to help find host families for the students
who will be coming to Ames In October, 2024.
• We also need ideas for activities for the arriving students and hosts.
• KOSHU business update--Michael Abrams reported on his progress with aligning Ames
businesses with those in Japan to have a festival sometime in Ames for shared
products, like: teas, wines, ISU memorabilia, fragrances, etc.
• He contacted the Iowa Japan Association.
• He learned more about the Des Moines wine festival to mimic here.
• AIPCA membership checks should be send to: Office of City Manager
