Meeting Minutes
Attending:Calli Sandahl,Cindy Hicks,Michael Abrams,Karla McCollum,Marina Kraeva,Valerie

1.Call to order –5:44 (though conversation started at 5:30)
2.Approval of July minutes -motion,Calli;seconded Marina;approved by all
3.Approval of treasurer ’s report -motion,Calli ;seconded Marina ;approved by all
4.Koshu youth trip planning
a.Interviewed 13 students
i.One is a 6th grader.Interviewed quite well,but language was specific that
7/8th graders were the intent.The board feels that since other 6th graders
were told not to apply,it isn’t fair to include this individual this year.He will
be encouraged to attend as a 7th or 8th grader.No 9th graders expressed
interest in the trip any longer.All other students will be approved.Cindy
will let the students know they are accepted.
ii.Need to get students information on price and timeline.Newsletter will
include a request for scholarships,and the Chamber is offering to provide
a scholarship for students.Cindy will follow up with the Chamber to see
what kind of scholarship funds we can receive.
5.Koshu business update
a.Michael has been in talks with various Ames businesses to try and build
partnerships with Japan stores.One store said they are not ready at this time.
Mucky Duck and Little Woods are interested and open to more dialogue.
Photosynthesis said they’re interested in helping sell ISU branded items.
b.Michael has several action items left to accomplish,including getting in front of
the Chamber to help gain some additional business partners.
6.Annual newsletter
a.Various revisions and edits were discussed
b.Kosovo update to be changed with update /highlights from October delegation
visit.
7.Other
a.Cindy received an email from Mayor Haila.Request to find papers on the Little
White Gourd.Cindy will request more info and we will look through our files to
see what we can find.
b.Cyclones may win the national championship -so need to have lots of Cyclone
gear for the Japanese!:)
