Meeting Minutes
Attending: Calli Sandahl, Cindy Hicks, Marina Kraeva, Michael Abrams, Steven McKinney, Nicki

1. Call to order: 5:32
2. Approval of August Minutes
a. Motion to approve - marina, second- Nicki
3. Kosovo Mayor
a. Had to be rescheduled due to the emergency on Kosovo’s part.
b. February 14-16, board is invited to a reception on Feb 14, mayor and staff will
come visit Ames on 16.
4. Koshu NYE Cards
a. Koshu opened the card exchange up to all middle school students, and have over
200 students signed up.
b. Cindy suggests we open ours up to Nevada and Gilbert as it’s a good cultural
exchange opportunity among students. Cindy has contacts in Nevada, and will
call upon former board member, Linda Livingston to help with Gilbert contacts.
c. Katrina to connect with Ames Middle School and determine where needs are.
d. Would prefer to send the cards in one package, postage paid for by the board
fund. We can also provide supplies if needed. Nicki to reach out to Katrina about
this. Shooting for a December 15 postage date.
5. Koshu 30th Anniversary meeting
a. Koshu discussed exchange to Ames with about 8-9 individuals in October and will
stay in a hotel. Koshu would like Ames delegation to stay in a hotel as well.
b. Concerns about COVID - Japan will take care of us if we get sick, they’d like to
make sure we take care of them as well.
c. Cindy to send Doodle poll to get better numbers from Board on who wants to
attend and when. Then we’ll determine who else needs to attend (for example,
the Mayor).
d. Need to determine what changes we’d like to make to our Koshu sister city
agreement – economic exchange vs. just cultural. This trip would be a great
opportunity to refresh our agreement and update it from the 80s.
e. Need to discuss payment. Cindy would like to look at the hotel being paid for by
AIPCA to alleviate costs for attendees.
f. Once a date is set, we may need to set up a committee to plan the Koshu’s
delegation.
i. Should we connect with some of the design students at ISU to create a
neat gift commemorating 30 years of partnership? Steven to reach out
to his contacts to see what’s available.
6. Annual Newsletter Reminder
a. Please get your content to Calli by December 31. She will supply draft at January
board meeting for everyone to review.
7. Other
a. No updates on treasurer :( Cindy will post on Facebook and reach out to the City.
b. Steven to share website link with board members. Everyone to bring ideas /
feedback at January
