Minutes May 14, 2020 VIRTUAL ELECTRONIC MEETING
Those present: Board members Lisa Shen, Judy Jones, Karlai Thornburg, Dianne Brotherson, Jen Malone, Andrew Koshatka
I. Call to Order (Lisa Shen) at 5:04 p.m. New Board member Andrew Koshatka was introduced.
II. Approval of November 2019 and February 2020 Minutes – Motion to approve minutes by
Thornburg, second by Brotherson. Motion approved.
III. Approval of the Treasurer’s Report - Malone reported that the account began in March with
$14,391.58. Expenses included reimbursements to families for cancelled trip, business checks and
holiday letter costs. There were membership dues and donations during this time. The Bank total
April 30 was $11,450.98. The budget for remaining of year will be discussed in New Business.
Brotherson moved we approve the Treasurer’s Report. 2nd Shen. Approved.
IV. Old Business/Updates
A. AIPCA newsletter feedback and membership updates. Malone will get returns and address
updates to Jones to update database. There was not much change in the membership.
B. Kosovo relationship – Sauer and Brotherson attended a meeting in Des Moines with
Kosovo sister cities in Iowa. Activities have pretty much shut down due to COVID-19.
Kosovo Mayor delegation updates – holding off until further notice.
Kosovo delegation in June - cancelled
C. Koshu – the 2020 delegation has been cancelled and Koshu has said they will resume 2022.
V. New Business
A. New Mayor of Koshu Mikio Suzuki started Feb 9, 2020
B. FY20 Funding wrap-up – Since our activities have been cancelled further funds will not be
needed. Brotherson moved and Malone 2nd that the forms be completed to return
money. Malone will complete the forms to return the city funds that will not be drawn
down.
C. FY21 budget – At this time it was decided to keep in place this request. It is difficult to
plan what will be needed. If we do not use next year, again we can return.
D. We still need new Board members to fill school positions
E. We need 2 at large Board members and 1 city appointed member.
F. Next Board meeting June 16.
G. Other
