Minutes November 21, 2019

Those present: Board members Lisa Shen, Judy Jones, Tom Sauer, Cindy Hicks, Karlai Thornburg, Dianne Brotherson. Also in attendance, Lana Pavlik.
I. Call to Order (Lisa Shen) at 5:01 p.m.
II. Approval of October 2019 Minutes – Motion to approve minutes by Sauer, second by Brotherson.
Motion approved.
III. Approval of the Treasurer’s Report the report - Malone not present. No official report. No changes
from previous report.
• Old Business/Updates
• City Council meeting update regarding Kosovo relationship –Sauer said he gave a brief presentation
to the City Council. The Mayor offered support. The Mayor was asked to write a letter and then
Sauer will take to the Consulate. The Sister States have organized a trip and Sauer will go on that
trip in May. Sauer would like to find more volunteers for the committee.
A. Shen has presented the budget of FY2020/21 and is waiting for City response.
B. Annual Winter Newsletter – send any relevant information to Jones to begin letter input.
C. Koshu 2020 culture exchange planning – Hicks reported the interviews went well and
presented a list of possible candidates. It may be necessary to chose older age youth over
6th graders who will have another chance to participate. She is working on final list and
getting a list of adult chaperones (could use more women). She will set up a list of possible
alternates. Hicks has several ideas and tentative dates for orientation. There will be an
orientation session once each month. She has contacted the Japanese ISU club who can
offer input and will help with orientations. January 15 has been set as the $200
nonrefundable deposit date. All participants must have passport ordered by then.
Tentative dates are June 7-14. Flight payments to United airlines will be tentative mid-
February to mid-March.
IV. New Business
A. New school board member from AMS – will continue to follow leads
B. Next Board meeting will be a newsletter mailing Jan 16 at home of Judy Jones. There will
be no meeting in December.
