HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - AIPCA Meeting Minutes from August 20, 2015Ames International Partner Cities Association Board Meeting August 20, 2015 Call to Order 6:00 PM Members present:Bill Diesslin, Dianne Brotherson, Lana Pavlik, Judy Jones, Lisa Shen. Also attending were: Dave Brotherson, Natalie Carran, D J Lauritsen, Jan Tibbetts, Jan LaVille and Susan Norris. Meeting Minutes:Minutes from the July meeting were presented. Pavlik moved to accept the minutes. Second by Diesslin. Board approved the minutes with minor correction to name Shen not Shea. Treasurer Report:Brotherson reported that the current balance is near $11,000 with the city allocation reimbursement. Old Business:Continue planning the Koshu adult delegation visit. Brotherson is still trying to hear back from Hirta on bus. New Business:Reports on daily schedules from the planning. These are tentative plans. Shen and Dave Brotherson reported that transport will pick up the Japanese at the airport on Friday. Their flight is to come in at 2:00. When the group arrives in Ames they will meet the mayor, tour city hall and the police station. Host families will pick up their guests at 5:30. Saturday will begin downtown with the Farmers’ Market and shopping in stores. This will be followed by a trip to the library at 11:00. Lunch will be at the Depot Deli and box lunches. After lunch group will go to Skunk River Cycles and ride bikes. Some of the group may choose to shop. At 3:00 the group will go to the Fire Station. Host families may pick up guests at 4:00 and go directly to Octoberfest or take guest home for awhile and return later to Octoberfest. Sunday will be host family day. Jones reported on Monday schedule. It will begin at 7:45 with bus leaving city hall. The group will go to the capitol grounds to see the Japanese bell and Japanese trees gifts given by Japanese. Then the group will take the capitol tour (90 minutes). From here they will walk to the Historical Building and tour for one hour. Lunch will be at Barattas in the Historical Building at 12:00. After lunch group may visit gift shop and look at exhibits. 1:00 group will get on bus to go to Papajohn Sculpture Garden. Group will leave here and travel to Jordan Creek shopping center. At 3:30 the group will leave for Machine Shed to visit the gift shop for Iowa souvenirs. Eat snack or dessert here? 4:30 leave for Ames. Stop at rest stop on way home. Get back to Ames at 5:30. Tuesday Norris reported that this is Meeker and ISU day. Group will be dropped off at Meeker school at 8:00. Juice and donuts will be served. 10:30 the bus will take a drive through campus tour. It will stop at the ISU Football facility for hour tour of stadium, practice facility etc. There will be a box lunch from the Café at Brookside or some campus site TBD. At 1:30 a tour of Stephens is scheduled and after that at tour of Brunier Gallery. The group may walk central campus, visit the library and bookstore. Hosts will pick up guests at Memorial Union at 5:00. Tuesday evening will be the Farewell dinner. It was thought the venue should be something other than the Oakwood church. Brotherson will work with Sarah Buss at the Ames Chamber and Natalie Carran will also work on this event. Wednesday Guests will meet at city hall to transport to airport. Brotherson requested that all event planners send to her schedules as they are confirmed with contact information so she can compile a master itinerary. Diesslin, Brotherson, Shen and possible others will check on translators that may be available during this week to help with the events. An honorarium may be available. Meeting adjourned at 6:40 PM.
