Report on World Friendship Day Kemp, Brotherson, and Sauer represented AIPCA at the World Friendship Day event at the Ames Public Library on Feb. 29. Good attendance and interaction by speakers with audience. Kemp baked Czech kolaches to share. AIPCA display was prepared by Dobyns. B. Update on Youth Delegation 1. Fundraiser at Fuji Restaurant on Monday night, March 26. Owner has agreed to donate a portion of all of the evening’s revenue to the student delegation. Members are encouraged to publicize event and encourage participation. Other fundraising ideas were discussed like having a yard cleanup day. C. AET Position 1. Letter received. 2. Kemp contacted the ISU Japanese Student Association regarding assistance with translations, recruitment of AETs, and encouraging greater interaction with AIPCA. 3. Someone is needed to interact with other sister city groups and Japanese student organizations in Iowa. Ary volunteered to research contact information for these groups, and Kemp wil send packet of job info to Ary to be included. Also research into potential to advertise positions with state organization, Japanese language schools, and other groups with potential AET candidates. D. Marketing/Membership Relational Ideas 1. Sending of meeting minutes by email or posting on website would help members keep abreast of activities. 2. Someone is needed to help get articles on AIPCA events and stories into newspapers and other publications/media. 3. Another idea discussed was having members of the youth delegation attend and report at the June meeting (tentatively June 28) and making the event a potluck to increase attendance. Including delegate profiles or perspectives in newsletter too. New Business A. Recent email from Koshu City indicated their desire for a Japanese youth visit in 2012 and postponing adult visit to 2013. Much discussion followed. There was concern that this would alter the current alternate year schedule, may stress AIPCA financial resources, and may interfere with Czech visits. Sending a Ames youth delegation again next year, however, would reestablish the alternate year pattern. Kemp will write response letter. Adjourn 6:18 PM Motion by Dobyns, second by Ary and passed. Next meeting Thursday April 19, 2012 5 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Tom Sauer, Secretary
