HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - AIPCA Meeting Minutes from February 16, 2012MINUTES AMES INTERNATIONAL PARTNER CITIES ASSOCIATION Ames, Iowa February 16, 2012, 5 PM Attending: Bill Diesslin, Dianne Brotherson, Judy Kemp, Oye Pitcher, Pat Sauer, and Tom Sauer Guest: Judy Jones Absent: Kathleen Ary, Sharlene Sullivan, Cappie Dobyns, Yonas Michael, and John Kolb Call to Order 5:08 p.m., Judy Kemp Approval of January 19 Minutes - Minor amendments made to minutes. Motion by Diesslin, second by Brotherson, vote and approved. Treasurers Report - New memberships for delegate families. - New balance $7935. - Motion by Tom Sauer, second by Pat Sauer, vote and approved. Old Business A. Replacement Board Member for Laura Lynn Boettger Judy Jones has been nominated. Her appointment will become official with city council approval. B. Update on Funding Kemp appeared before city council on Feb. 14 to discuss funding. She noted funding had not increased since 2000. Concern was expressed that the delegations should have a broader representation of Ames residents and that there be a more open recruitment of delegates and chaperones. Discussion followed with conclusion that Association would benefit from both greater visibility and wider recruitment efforts. C. Emily in Japan Kemp noted that as Boettger no longer on the board, need someone to take over responsibility for advertisement of AET position. James’ contract ends in March, Emily’s in Aug. No candidates currently identified for either position. Discussed contacting Japanese student organizations at U of I and ISU for contacts/leads on potential AET candidates. D. World Friendship Day Feb. 29th, 6:30, at the Ames Public Library Czech kolaches have been ordered from Dutch Oven Bakery (Kolb and Brotherson). Kemp has prepared brochures and advertising. Dobbyns has prepared a display. Tom Sauer said he would also attend. E. Dates for adult delegation from Japan Several potential dates were discussed. It is preferable to have them visit when there is a home ISU football game. The Japanese delegation would like to schedule their visit to take advantage of Japanese holidays on Sept. 15 and Sept. 23. The first date coincides with an ISU home football game and was identified as the preferred time window. F. Update on first meeting of youth delegation (Diesslin) Group met weekend before Super Bowl. Facebook page is set up to communicate among group. Discussion about fundraiser with Fuji Steakhouse. Date to be chosen, either a Monday or Thursday. New Business A. Marketing to increase membership and awareness of delegations Several ideas were discussed to increase visibility including articles in newspaper and city newsletter, amesonline.com, and Facebook or other social media. B. By-laws No discussion. NOTE: Due to ISU and ACSD spring break in March, the March meeting date was changed to Thurs. March 22 (motion by Diesslin, second by Pat Sauer, vote and approved).
