HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - AIPCA Meeting Minutes from January 19, 2012MINUTES AMES INTERNATIONAL PARTNER CITIES ASSOCIATION Ames, Iowa January 19, 2012, 5 PM Attending:Yonas Michael, John Kolb, Oye Pitcher, Bill Diesslin, Dianne Brotherson, Laura Lynn Boettger, Kathleen Ary, Sharlene Sullivan, Judy Kemp, and Tom Sauer Guest: Lana Pavlik Absent: Cappie Dobyns, Pat Sauer Call to Order 5:06 p.m., Judy Kemp Approval of November 19Minutes Noted Brotherson’s name misspelled. Motion by Boettger, second by Ary, vote to approve November minutes. Treasurers Report Reimbursement of expenses received from City. Paid for letter translation. Received member dues from two individuals and one donation. Balance is $7629. Old Business Upcoming Youth Delegation to JapanCurrent delegation includes 14 students and 3 adult chaperones.Another person has inquired about being a chaperone. Discussion concluded thatTravel deposits have been collected and flight reservations made.Diesslin will lead the delegation.The first chaperone’s meeting will be on Sat. morning, 1/21Discussion on AIPCA providing financial support to the chaperones. Motion by Michael, second by Ary, vote to provide each chaperone with $1000 to help defray travel costs. Vote carried. Diesslin abstained from vote.Discussion on potential fundraising efforts followed. Several possibilities were mentioned. It was felt that the delegation should have leadership on any fundraising project. Update on AET in Japan Boettger provided an update of current AET in Japan and reviewed changes in recruitment process. Situation for current AET is improving and she is considering extending her stay. Second AET’s term ends soon and no replacement has been identified. NewsletterA newsletter was sent with a holiday greeting in December. Replacement of Board Positions Need to identify potential new board members. Boettger is resigning as she no longer lives within the city. Dobbyns term ends in June. New Business New Method for AIPCA FundingKemp discussed new method for receiving financial support from the City. Proposal was submitted in December and may become an annual exercise. City may grant an exemption in future years as AIPCA is a city-chartered group. World Friendship DayWorld Friendship Day event will be Wed. Feb. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ames Public Library. Kemp requested members to consider representing AIPCA at the event. Display and artifacts for exhibit are needed. Kolb and Brotherson agreed to look into obtaining Czech food items. By-Law RevisionsDiscussion postponed until next meeting. Adjourn 6:12 PM Motion by Michael, second by Pitcher, vote and approved. Respectfully submitted, Tom Sauer, Secretary
