New Business:
Frydek Mystic Visit
Reviewed what has been done so far and distributed updated schedule
Hotel requests – Vice Mayors felt they would be less burdensome at hotel. Several hotels both have space and allow smoking (AmericInn, Quality Inn, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn). Will attempt
to get hosts but have hotel as a fallback. Need two host families that will allow smoking somewhere (Mayor, two Vice Mayors will share).
Host family update
Do have enough total numbers! Only smoking question to resolve. Four women and 11 men will attend, hoping to have host families drive to DSM for pick up.
Agenda & Help needed/Daily activities
Thursday – Luncheon at Maude’s remains. Oy will help set up at 12:30, basement preferred. Joyce has catering set up with Christiana. Jet lag concerns!
Friday – Checking Snus Hill winery for food availability. Suggest people eat dinner prior to attending and have small items at the winery.
Saturday – Will check budget for Historical Museum, estimate $10 per person onsite plus a beverage. $8 lunch from The Café an option. Atrium available for seating in either case. Will
ask AIPCA members and host families provide own transport to DSM as bus will allow for one or two non guests (17 person van – Carolyn).
Sunday – Small group dinners with 3 or 4 guests plus their hosts. Allow for more conversation and interaction.
Monday – Bus in the AM, will seek an option for items purchased rather than have guests carry them across campus. Will try to have Tea Room for lunch as opposed to Legends. Key visits
are the Biorenewables facility and the Dairy Farm. Walking tour of Central Campus and artworks to follow with stops to shop along the way. Afternoon tour of the Farm House set at 2 pm.
Multiple other options available (Grant Wood mural at Parks Library; Morrill Hall, Dairy Industry Courtyard sculpture, ABC Computer, etc).
Tuesday – Hospitol tour an option, or also Wednesday AM. Hold evening for meals with host families.
Wedesday – AM open as back up/repeats. Will develop a list of options. Flights depart 2:45 pm, so need to be at the airport at 1 pm latest.
Gifts/Welcome Bags
Grant Wood magnets already purchased. City of Ames Book available, please visit with Diane O if you wish to purchase one.
Also considering an umbrella, baseball caps (famous Iowa brands), Barilla gilt, ISU admission packet or Iowa Cutting Board (Bill).
