AMES INTERNATIONAL PARTNER CITIES ASSOCIATION
May 20, 2011
Room 235 City Hall, Ames, Iowa
The meeting was called to order by President Diane Oppedal at 5:00 PM.
Members present: Diane Oppedal, Bill Diesslin, Judy Kemp, Laura Lynn Boettger, Carolyn Klaus, John Kolb, Sharlene Sullivan, Yonas Michael, Cappie Dobyns, Kathleen Ary, and Sandy Hoenig.
Members absent: George Beran, Oye Pitcher, and Bob Kindred.
Diane introduced two newly nominated board members: Mark Swenson and Dianne Brotherson. (Tom and Pat Sauer have also been nominated as co-representatives.) Three current Board members
will retire June 30th: George Beran (6 yr. city rep) and at-large representatives Carolyn Klaus (9 years) and Diane Oppedal (6 years).
Guests present: Richard Deyo and Kevin & Cindy Martin. The Martins have a daughter living in Japan and would appreciate help in connecting their daughter with people who live in the

The minutes for the March and April meetings were approved with minor corrections.
Bill Diesslin presented the Treasurer’s report. Approved. Mark Swenson volunteered to assist John Kolb and Jonas Michael on the audit committee.
Committee Reports: Laura Lynn reported that Emily Jo Hachmeister’s documents have been forwarded to Japan (sent “Global Urgency” by Carolyn to Rhonda Tzeuka) as our candidate for the
new Assistant English Teacher.
Carolyn Klaus and Bill Diesslin have mailed the youth delegation their cancelled trip deposit refunds along with a letter from Diane. The youth will retain their AIPCA membership and
receive first consideration for the next trip.
Cappie will try to finish work on the newsletter. One of her students is designing a new AIPCA brochure.
Correspondence: Diane reported on an email from Lord Mayor Petr Cvik, in Frydek-Mistek, who wants to send a Czech delegation to Ames late September. She will encourage them to come
the week of September 21-28, 2011.
New Business: Diane gave members a revised Table of Contents for the board notebooks and new forms on AIPCA’s History of American English Teachers to Japan, Exchange history with Japan
and the Czech Republic, and history of Board presidents, all of which she compiled. She also distributed an Inventory of AIPCA supplies, including archive materials. Additional documents/banner
is stored at City Hall.
Officers were nominated for the following year.
Annual Meeting: Thursday, June 9, at Dublin Bay from 5:00-7:00 PM. Sandy will put a notice in the paper. Diane will send a notice to Erin to be emailed to the AIPCA membership.
