Members Present: Diane Oppedal, Bill Diesslin, Cappie Dobyns, Sharlene Sullivan, Kathleen Ary, George Beran, Judy Kemp, Bob Kindred, Oye Pitcher, Laura Lynn Boettger
Members Absent: Sandi Hoenig, John Kolb, Jonas Michaels
Diane called the meeting to order at 5pm.
Minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
Bill presented the treasurer’s report. There is $8280.44 in treasury. Carolyn moved to accept. Kathleen seconded. Passed.
Old Business:
Bill submitted report & group photo on Ames to Koshu adult trip. Diane Brotherson will write an article for the newsletter. Bill will send scanned picture for newsletter.
Carolyn will contact Ellen Heddendorf's mother for Ellen’s Koshu address.
Diane wrote up a World Friendship Day report and submitted it to Cappie for the newsletter.
Database of Japanese speaking people: Oye will work on the draft. Bill will assist.
Student Scholarship: John Kolb is willing to work on the draft of the scholarship fund. Cappie and Sharlene will work with him. This wouldn’t be implemented until the next youth
trip.
New Business:
Newsletter: Cappie presented a draft and will finalize after all committee members have finished articles.
Host Families: Laura Lynn will work on securing host families for July Koshu adult delegation.
The annual meeting will be on June 9th, from 5-7pm at Dublin Bay (patio). AIPCA will purchase the appetizers.
Member Update: Mark Swenson will replace George Beran as City Rep in June. George was honored at the mayor’s breakfast for his years of service to AIPCA.
Youth trip:
Down payment of $2600 made for June 13-23rd trip.
Carolyn and Sharlene met with parents to determine whether they still wanted to go. They do. It was decided to wait until April 1st for Koshu’s decision. Carolyn, after talking with
Rhonda Tzeuka, extended Koshu’s decision to April 15.
3 high school students withdrew from the trip on March 16. There are now 8 boys and 12 girls. Four adults are going: Carolyn, Sharlene, Stacy Culhane, and Tom Walsh. All but Tom
have relatives in the student delegation. Cultural training is scheduled for April 17.
Japan Earthquake and Donation: A donation on behalf of AIPCA will be made to the Red Cross. Carolyn will check with Rhonda on the preferred method of payment—directly to Koshu or to
the local Red Cross chapter.
Renewal of Incorporation Document: John Klaus checked on this. Renewal is perpetual.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:10 so that AET candidate interviews with Emily Jo Hachmeister and Burt A. Hurst could take place.
Next meeting: April 21, 5pm.
