AMES INTERNATIONAL PARTNER CITIES ASSOCIATION
February 17, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 5:00 by president Diane Oppedal.
Members present: Diane Oppedal, Carolyn Klaus, Kathleen Ary, Judy Kemp, Bill Diesslin, George Beran, Laura Lynn Boettger, Oye Pitcher, and Sandy Hoenig.
Members absent: Sharlene Sullivan, Cappie Dobyns, John Kolb, Yonas Michael, and Bob Kindred, Ames City Liaison.
Minutes of the January 20, 2011, were approved with one addition: the Federal IRS 990-N report for 2010 had also been filed by our treasurer.
Bill Diesslin presented the treasurer’s report. Approved.
Old business:
Judy Kemp reported on the evaluations from the host families for the youth Koshu trip. In the future, host families will be informed about the Google translation program.
New business:
Diane reported that the Friendship Force and invited AIPCA to co-host the World Friendship Day on March 1, 2011, at the Ames Public Library from 6:30-9:00. Members are encouraged to
attend.
A delegation of adults from Koshu will arrive at the end of May. Diane will send them a letter encouraging them to stay through Monday, Memorial Day. A data base of Japanese speaking
people in the Ames area is needed.
A youth delegation will travel to Koshu in mid-June. The delegation is still in need of another adult chaperone. AIPCA is hoping to establish a student scholarship that would enable
more students to make the trip.
A newsletter will be published in March. Articles will include the youth and adult exchanges, Friendship Day, and letters from our Koshu teachers.
Two new teachers need to be hired. Laura Lynn will advertise to recruit.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:07.
