HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - AIPCA Meeting Minutes from January 20, 2011MINUTES AMES INTERNATIONAL PARTNER CITIES ASSOCIATION January 20, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 5:05 pm by President Diane Oppedal. Members present: Diane Oppedal, Carolyn Klaus, Sharlene Sullivan, Judy Kemp, Oye Pitcher, Sandy Hoenig, Laura Lynn Boettger, John Kolb, Cappie Dobyns, George Beran, and Bill Diesslin. New member Yonas Michael was welcomed to the board. Members absent: Kathleen Ary and Bob Kindred, Ames City Liaison. Approval of the November 18, 2010, minutes were made. Carried. Treasurer Bill Diesslin, presented the revised November monthly report and the January treasurer’s reports. Bill reported that the IRS –IA 2011 Biennial report for Iowa nonprofit corporations has been filed with the secretary of state’s office. Old business: Sharlene reported that the documentary of the youth exchange trip will be completed in time to be sent to the youth with the adult delegation next June. Judy is in the process of doing the follow-up evaluation with the host families. New Business: Mayor Ann Campbell has been in contact with Koshu with an invitation for our Ames youth to visit Koshu in mid June and for an adult delegation from Koshu to visit Ames in early May. In December, the teachers held an informational meeting for students in grades 7-9 who might be interested in the June Koshu exchange. They have received 31 applications from the 43 who attended. March was suggested as a date for the next AIPCA newsletter. President Diane will assign articles. The framed piece of art Mayor Campbell was given as a gift from Mayor Tanabe, which she then gave to Mary Greeley Hospital, is now on display in their Emergency room. We shared a note and photo of Yuta, sent to Mayor Campbell from his Koshu family. President Diane will contact the Ames Public Library regarding the travel bags for Koshu and Frydek-Mistek.
