AMES INTERNATIONAL PARTNER CITY ASSOCIATION
August 19, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 5:10 pm by Carolyn Klaus filling in for president Diane Oppedal.
Members present: Carolyn Klaus, Sandy Hoenig, Sharlene Sullivan, Judy Kemp, John Kolb, Oye Pitcher, Cappie Dobyns, Kathleen Ary, and former board member Lana Pavlik.
Members absent: Laura Lynn Boettger, David Miller, Diane Oppedal, George Beran, Bill Diesslin, and Bob Kindred, Ames City Liaison.
Approval of the May 20 and June 17, 2010 minutes were made by Judy Kemp and seconded by Kathleen Ary. Carried.
In the absence of Bill Diesslin, there was no Treasurer’s report.
Committee Reports:
The youth delegation of 23 youth and 5 adults from Japan will arrive on September 21, 2010. Judy Kemp, Kathleen Ary, Sharleen Sullivan, and Cappie Dobyns are serving on the committee.
Suggestions for entertainment, gifts, transportation, and food were discussed. Additional host families might be needed due to the recent Ames flooding. Sandy will submit a picture
of the committee to the Ames Tribune with a message seeking additional host families. Interested hosts should contact the committee via our e-mail address: amesipca@gmail.com
Carolyn Klaus and Oye Pitcher reported on the partner city exchange to Japan October 27 – November 3, 2010. Our delegation will have 18 adults. Bill Diesslin and Mayor Ann Campbell
Board representatives.
New Business:
The Board members discussed the upcoming Ames Faces Festival to be held on Saturday, October 16. Due to our busy exchange agenda, members voted not to participate in the event this
year.
Announcement: Board member Laura Lynn had a baby boy, Dietrich Timothy, on June 20. Congratulations to Laura Lynn and her family.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 pm.
