HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - AIPCA Meeting Minutes from May 20, 2010Minutes Ames International Partner Cities Association May 20, 2010 The meeting was called to order by Diane Oppedal, President at 5:00pm Members present were Diane Oppedal, president, Bill Diesslin, treasurer, George Beran, temporary secretary, Carolyn Klaus, Laura Lynn Boettger, Sharlene Sullivan, Kathleen Ary, Bob Kindred (only for early part of the meeting) Treasurer’s report was provided by Bill Diesslin. The balance on May 20 is $7,906.76. As of May 1, $500 had been collected as deposit for the Japan Youth Delegates. The Koshu youth delegates are scheduled to be in Ames September 20-27. Ten families have offered home hosting, most of them two youths each. Two families have offered home hosting for adults. Four adults will be accompanying the youth delegates. Buford’s Steak House is reserved for Sunday evening September 26 for the entire group and the host families. Gift bags are planned for the delegates. Sharlene plans photos of all attendees framed in the shape of Iowa. She will also buy a supply of 100 copies ($10.00 each) of the two-language books, “Yamanachi”, to give as gifts. A bulletin board is needed to place at the Middle School to welcome the Koshu students. The adult trip to Koshu is scheduled for October 27 – November 3, 2010. Airfare round trip will be $1062 with total costs probably about $1500. Sixteen places are reserved: at present 13 are confirmed. Ames Mayor, Ann Campbell is scheduled. The nominating committee will present candidates for the Partner Cities Board. The Board has 12 members with 3 year terms, and possible three terms. Carolyn Klaus will be leaving the board after serving nine years. Diane will be available for a second term as president. The Ames Faces Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 16 2010, from 10:00 -- 3:00. Lynn Carey will lead participation of Ames Partner Cities in this community event. lcarey@amespubliclibrary.org Three ring notebooks for the Ames International Partner Cities Association were made available for all Board members. The notebooks contain agendas and minutes; membership lists; committees and exchanges; annual reports; and AIPCA documents. They are very well prepared and gratefully received. The annual Partner Cities meeting for the membership will be June 17 at Dublin Bay Restaurant at 5:30. Submitted by George Beran
