HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - AIPCA Meeting Minutes from February 18, 2010MINUTES
AMES INTERNATIONAL PARTNER CITIES ASSOCIATION
February 18, 2010
Room 135 City Hall Ames, Iowa
The meeting was called to order by President Diane Oppedal at 5:00 pm.
Members present were Diane Oppedal, Bill Diesslin, Judy Kemp, Reveevun Pitcher, Cappie Dodbyns, Laura Lynn Boettger, Carolyn Klaus, Bob Kindred, and Sandy Hoenig.
Members absent: George Beran, David Miller, Kathleen Ary, Sharleen Sullivan, and John Kolb.
The December 11, 2009 Minutes were read and approved.
Bill Diesslin provided the Treasurer’s report and it was approved.
Ellen Heddendorf has been hired for the teacher position for Koshu, Japan. The paperwork is moving along and she is scheduled to begin this spring.
A picture of the new Board appeared in the About People section of the Ames Tribune last month. Judy made CD copies of the youth trip to Japan for each student and adult who made the
visit. It was suggested a copy be added to each of the Koshu travel bags at the Ames Public Library.
As a gesture of good will, President Diane and Bob Kindred went to the City Council meeting and returned $3000 expense money which was given to AIPCA for a sister city visit to Ames
that was later cancelled.
Since David Miller was absent, the follow-up talk about a web page for our organization was tabled until next month. Members suggested that maybe a link could be added to the city web
page. Questions were raised about the cost of the web page and domain.
Carolyn Klaus and Bill Diesslin are meeting tonight after our Board meeting with people who had shown an interest in visiting our partner city in Japan last year. They currently have
11 people on the list. They will be working with Dorothy Schumer at Travel and Transport to make travel plans for fall of 2010. President Diane has writing Koshu requesting fall dates
for both the Ames adult visit to Koshu and the Koshu youth visit. She requested the middle school teachers submit preferred dates for the youth visit.
