RESOLUTION ACCEPTING EASEMENT AND APPRPOVING PURCHASE
AGREEMENTS FOR THE 2024-26 TRAFFIC SYSTEM
CAPACITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (13th & GRAND)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, the 2024-26 Traffic System Capacity Improvement Program includes
improvements to the intersection of 13th Street and Grand Avenue by adding dedicated
left turn lanes and a new traffic signal at the intersection, and a shared use path along
the west side of Grand Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, the City retained WHKS & Co, and their subconsultant JCG Land
Services to negotiate property acquisitions in November 2025. Of the 22 impacted
parcels, 19 required temporary easements. A total of nine of the temporary easements
for construction activities have been agreed upon. Permanent easements are necessary
on 20 parcels for placement of permanent improvements; and,
WHEREAS, 12 property acquisitions remain, staff recommend revising the project
schedule while they continue to complete property acquisitions in 2026, and staff will
return at a later City Council meeting with an update on the remaining properties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
IA, that we accept the easements and approve the purchase agreements is hereby
approved.
