HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Resolution denying the appeal of the conditions of approval for a certificate of appropriateness for 904 Kellogg AvenueRESOLUTION NO. 26-493 RESOLUTION DENYING THE APPEAL OF THE CONDITIONS OF APPROVAL FOR A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR 904 KELLOGG AVENUE FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the property owner at 904 Kellogg Avenue installed two mini split air source heat pump systems with external supply lines in 2025; and, WHEREAS, staff received a complaint about 904 Kellogg Avenue in spring 2026 that the property underwent alterations for mini split systems without the necessary approval from the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and staff issued a notice of violation on April 9, 2026, to the owners indicating that a C ertificate of Appropriateness (COA) was required; and, WHEREAS, the owner applied for a COA to allow installation of the two ground - mounted heat pump systems with supply lines that run along the north and south of the property to approve as is; and, WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission reviewed and approved the application on May 11, 2026 with conditions and the owner subsequently appealed the decision of HPC as it is not practicable to meet all conditions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, IA, that the denial of the appeal of the conditions of approval for a Certificate of Appropriateness for 904 Kellogg Avenue is hereby approved.
