DATE:07-28-26
DEPT:PW
SUBJECT:EASEMENT VACATION AT DISCOVERY PLACE 2ND ADDITION
SUBDIVISION
COUNCIL ACTION FORM
BACKGROUND:
Discovery Place Second Addition is a subdivision located near the Tedesco Environmental
Learning Corridor adjacent University Boulevard. An existing 10-foot public utility easement
(PUE) is located within Outlot "X" of the subdivision. The PUE was created at the time of the
original platting of Iowa State University Research Park Third Addition to facilitate utility
access to the lots in the area.
Discovery Place Second Addition created new PUEs to facilitate different alignments of utility
access. The new PUEs provide the same utility access to the area that the original PUE
provided. City staff has reviewed the existing PUE and concurs that it is now no longer
necessary and does not have any utilities located within it.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Approve vacation of the easement.
2. Direct staff to make further changes to the easement area.
CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
A new public utility easement, with a different alignment, has been created to facilitate
utility access. No utilities are known to be located within the existing easement.
Therefore, it is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative
No. 1, as described above.
