RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT LOBBY
AS THE OFFICIAL POSTING SITE
FOR CITY COUNCIL MEETING AGENDAS AND PUBLIC NOTICES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, during the most recent legislative session, the Iowa Legislature
adopted HF 2490. This legislation, effective July 1, 2026, requires cities to post notices
of meetings in a prominent and conspicuous location designated annually by the
governmental body, in a manner that ensures the notice is visible at all times; and,
WHEREAS, currently, agendas are posted in the vestibule at the front of City Hall.
However, this area is not accessible after business hours. After reviewing the
requirements of the new law, it has been determined that the Police Department lobby is
a suitable place to post such agendas, since this area is accessible to the public 24 hours
a day, seven days a week.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that the Police Lobby as the designated posting place for City Council Agenda and
public meeting notices is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 14th day of July, 2026.
