RESOLUTION APPROVING THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS PLAN
FOR THE AMES AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
WHEREAS, the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) was
officially designated as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) of the Ames
urbanized area by the Governor of Iowa in March 2003; and
WHEREAS, the AAMPO has developed a Transportation Systems Management
and Operations (TSMO) Plan to guide how the region coordinates, manages, and
operates the existing transportation system; and
WHEREAS, the TSMO Plan focuses on improving safety, reliability, mobility, and
efficiency through coordinated operations, data, technology, and shared agency
practices rather than relying soley on capacity expansion or major capital improvements;
and
WHEREAS, the AAMPO does not own or operate transportation infrastructure
directly, therefore the TSMO Plan’s role is to convene regional patterns, align priorities,
and integrate operations-focused strategies within the region; and
WHEREAS, the TSMO Plan does not establish policy or set priorities for any
individual AAMPO member agency; and
WHEREAS, the TSMO Plan has been developed with input from regional
stakeholders, member agencies, the public, and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Ames Area Metropolitan
Planning Organization hereby approves the Traffic Systems Management and
Operations (TSMO) Plan.
ADOPTED THIS 14th day of July 2026.
