MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
AMES AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (AAMPO)
TRANSPORTATION POLICY COMMITTEE
AMES, IOWA JUNE 9, 2026
CALL TO ORDER: The Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO)
Transportation Policy Committee meeting was called to order by Ames Mayor and
voting member John Haila at 5:59 p.m. on the 9th day of June, 2026. Other voting
members present were: Bronwyn Beatty-Hansen, City of Ames; Amber Corrieri, City of
Ames; Tim Gartin, City of Ames; Rachel Junck, City of Ames; Anita Rollins, City of
Ames; Erich Kretzinger, Boone County Board of Supervisors; and Linda Murken, Story
County Board of Supervisors. Gloria Betcher, City of Ames, joined the meeting
electronically.
CONSENT AGENDA: Moved by Junck, seconded by Murken, to approve the Consent
Agenda.
1. Motion approving Minutes of the Regular Ames Area Metropolitan Planning
Organization Transportation Policy Committee Meeting on May 26, 2026
Vote on Motion: 9-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
HEARING ON AMENDMENT TO THE FFY 2026-2029 TRANSPORTATION
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM: Transportation Planner Kyle Thompson presented the
amendment, noting that the Iowa Department of Transportation had requested to
advance its I-35 widening project, located between Huxley and US-30, with a proposed
start date of July 2026. Because a portion of the project fell within the Metropolitan
Planning Organization boundary, approval of a Transportation Improvement Program
amendment was required. Transportation Planner Thompson confirmed there was no
impact to local funding, as this was a state-funded project. The item had previously
appeared on the May 26 consent agenda and was subject to a brief public comment
period, during which no comments were received.
Mayor Haila opened and closed the Public Hearing when no one came forward to speak.
Moved by Kretzinger, seconded by Rollins, to approve the amendment to the FFY
2026-2029 Transportation Improvement Program.
Vote on Motion: 9-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
POLICY COMMITTEE COMMENTS: None.
ADJOURNMENT: Moved by Corrieri, seconded by Murken, to adjourn the meeting at
6:01 p.m.
Vote on Motion: 9-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
