Report of Commission Subcommittees
• Outreach
o Several members of the committee met and discussed additional signage
for events, such as having a standing banner to display the mission, logo,
and other information like pictures from AAOSE or neighborhood art
applications Carly is looking into the cost for a banner
o Wind is a concern—different types of banners were discussed that might
be a better fit than a tall banner
o Carly is going to print out 8x10 photos of the AAOSE pieces to display in
picture frames for the Art Walk
o The commission wants to continue to provide paper/markers for people to
draw on
▪ Stromberg-Murphy will bring an additional table for the drawings
o Interested in input for other ideas from the committee
• Public Relations
o A series of posts are scheduled to promote the Art Walk, including
reposting post from the City
o After Hoff-Grambau’s weekly pictures are finished in June, the committee
will start to highlight AAOSE pieces
o The Committee will start posting additional posts likely in July after the Art
Walk (e.g., stories, calendar, scavenger hunt, etc.)
o The Committee will discuss creating an art walk/scavenger hunt and will
bring ideas to the next meeting
• Collection Management
o Repair work continues
o “TipSee” should be installed soon
o Main Street is no longer interested in a dedication ceremony for “Hello,”
but ACPC may have a dedication ceremony soon for “TipSee”
o The committee will look at having the Commission assess the collection
for any needed repair work soon
Public Forum
None.
Chair Comments
• There are currently no submissions for the calendar photo contest.
o The PR committee will publicize, Carly is setting up a press release, and
the commission will talk about the contest at the Art Walk.
o Reutter, Hoff-Grambau, and Anders will serve on the jury to select the
pictures for the calendar in August.
o Kumar suggested having the ISU bookstore sell calendars for the
Commission to keep the profits. Brian may have to look into this.
o Rowland and Merchant suggested donating calendars to Reiman
Gardens, especially since they partnered with the Commission for the
roundabout project.
o Anders suggested putting the press release in the Ames Voice, Hoff
Grambau suggested putting it in Patch, and Kumar suggested contacting
Discover Ames.
• The commission is planning on a group picture at the next meeting.
Commissioners should wear their I heart public art shirts.
City of Ames Liaison Report/Comments
• Northcrest has expressed interest in a bus tour similar to what Green Hills did.
Brian and Carly would love if one or several commissioners came along to help.
• Carly is looking into using old city-owned iPads for PAC use at events to show
the GIS, AAOSE pieces, etc.
Old Business
• Downtown Art Walk
o Lindsley will pick up the booth and Stromberg-Murphy will bring the extra
table, paper, and markers
o The booth will be outside of Torrent Brewing
o Rowland shared a map of where the AAOSE pieces are located and
suggested printing it out to share at the Art Walk
▪ Lindsley will renumber the map and ask Carly to print them out
• Booth at Main Street Farmer’s Market
o Gassmann has reached out and has not heard anything yet, but will
provide an update at the next meeting
