HomeMy WebLinkAboutA039 - Resolution accepting completion of the 2023/24 Collector Street Pavement Improvements project by Con-Struct IncITEM #:40 DATE:06-09-26 DEPT:PW SUBJECT:2023/24 COLLECTOR STREET PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS (6TH STREET FROM BROOKRIDGE AVENUE TO NORTHWESTERN AVENNUE) COUNCIL ACTION FORM BACKGROUND: This annual program utilizes current repair and reconstruction techniques to make pavement improvements to streets that are selected in accordance with the most current street condition i n v e n t o r y. The project location was along 6th Street from Brookridge Avenue to Northwestern Avenue. On March 26, 2024, City Council awarded a contract to Con-Struct, Inc. of Ames, Iowa, in the amount of $1,003,926. One change order was administratively approved by staff as part of the project. Change Order No. 1 (balancing), an increase in the amount of $40,684.30 reflected actual measured quantities completed during construction. The primary items contributing to the increase included additional quantities of storm sewer pipe, footing drains, replacement of a sanitary sewer manhole, and additional shared use path and sidewalk improvements. Construction was completed in the amount of $1,044,610.30. Project revenue and estimated expenses as follows: Available Revenue Estimated Expenses 2023/24 Collector St. (G.O. Bonds)$ 1,200,000 Bridge Rehab Program (G.O. Bonds)$ 120,000 2023/24 Collector St. (Road Use Tax)$ 75,000 Water System Improvements (Water Utility Fund)$ 50,000 Sanitary Sewer System Improvements (Sewer Utility Fund)$ 50,000 Construction (this council action) $ 1,044,610.30 Engineering/Administration $ 200,000.00 TOTAL $ 1,495,000 $ 1,244,610.30 ALTERNATIVES: 1. Accept the 2023/24 Collector Street Pavement Improvements – (6th Street) project as completed by Con-Struct Inc. of Ames, IA, in the amount of $1,044,610.30. 2. Direct staff to pursue changes to the project. 1 CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: This project has been completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications and result in lower street maintenance costs and less frequent repairs. Therefore, it is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative No. 1, as described above.
