HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Resolution approving closure of 5th St from Kellogg Ave to Library exit and additional metered parking for Ames History Museum Big Bash on July 3, 2026RESOLUTION NO. 26-387 RESOLUTION APPROVING ADDITIONAL STREET AND PARKING METER CLOSURES FOR AMES HISTORY MUSEUM’S BIG BASH FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Ames History Museum will host a new event in the Downtown area titled Big Bash on Friday, July 3, 2026. The event will be held in celebration of America's 250th Anniversary; and, WHEREAS, on May 26, 2026, the City Council approved requests from Ames History Museum regarding the Big Bash event taking place July 3. The event includes a vintage car show, special exhibits in Ames History Museum, sponsor booths with giveaways, food trucks, and kids' activities including inflatables and a trackless train. The original request included the closure of 44 metered parking spaces for the event ; and, WHEREAS, Ames History Museum has received a great deal of interest in the vintage car show and is requesting to expand the event. The expanded area would be along 5th Street from Kellogg Avenue to the Library book drop exit. The expansion will require the closure of an additional 10 metered parking spaces, and traffic from the Library book drop will need to be re-routed through Kellogg Lot S. The estimated loss of revenue from the closure of the additional metered spaces totals $20.00; and; WHEREAS, organizers have agreed to reimburse the City for the lost parking meter revenue from the closure of the additional 10 metered parking spaces, totaling $20.00. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of 5th Street between Kellogg and the Library exit and an additional 10 metered parking spaces, between 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on July 3, 2026, for Ames History Museum’s Big Bash, is hereby approved.
