RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
2026/27 AIRPORT AIRSIDE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
(RECONSTRUCTION OF RUNWAY 01/19)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, AND PROVIDING FOR
NOTICE OF HEARING AND THE TAKING OF BIDS
IN CONNECTION THEREWITH
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, has heretofore determined
it advisable and necessary to construct the 2026/27 Airport Airside Improvements Project
(Reconstruction of Runway 01/19) for the City of Ames; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it necessary and proper to adopt proposed
plans, specifications, and form of contract as filed with the City Clerk on the 5th day of
June, 2026; and,
WHEREAS, it is intended that the cost of said improvement shall be paid from such
funds as the City Council may legally use for such purposes and from a grant in aid from
the Federal Aviation Administration; and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary to fix a time and place of hearing on said proposed
plans, specifications and form of contract and to provide for the taking of bids in
connection therewith and to give notice thereof.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, as follows:
Section One. The plans, specifications and form of contract for the 2026/27 Airport
Airside Improvements Project (Reconstruction of Runway 01/19) as prepared by
Bolton and Menk, Inc., within the City of Ames, Iowa, are hereby approved, and
the 14th day of July, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, Ames,
Iowa, hereby fixed as the time and place of hearing on said proposed plans,
specifications, and form of contract, and also the time and place of considering
bids in connection therewith. Sealed bids will be received until 2:00 p.m. on the
30th day of June, 2026, in the office of the City Clerk, Ames, Iowa, at which time
they shall be opened and announced.
Section Two. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to give notice of
said hearing on said proposed plans, specifications, and form of contract, and of
the taking of bids, by publication of such notice as prescribed by the Code of Iowa,
Sections 26.3 and 362.3.
Section Three. That the method of construction shall be by contract in accordance
with the plans and specifications and general stipulations for said improvement
approved by the City Council.
Section Four. The Contractor will be paid in monthly estimates for work completed
as set out in the specifications. The project shall begin on or near the appropriate
starting date as specified in the Project Manual and shall be completed by the
completion date also indicated thereon.
Section Five. That the said improvements shall be paid for from such funds of the
City of Ames, Iowa as may be legally used for such purposes and a grant in aid
from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Section Six. The City Council sets the amount of security to accompany each bid
to be in the amount of 5% of the total bid, price pursuant to the provisions of
Chapter 26 of the Code of Iowa, which bid security shall conform to the provisions
of the Instructions to Bidders hereby approved.
Section Seven. All provisions set out in said form of contract and notice are hereby
recognized and prescribed by this Council, and all resolutions or orders or parts
thereof in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
