HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Resolution approving lease agreement between City and ISU for land adjacent to Moore Memorial ParkRESOLUTION NO. 26-285 RESOLUTION APPROVING A LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY FOR LAND ADJACENT MOORE MEMORIAL PARK FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, Moore Memorial Park includes approximately 30 acres of land on the west side of Ioway Creek. This land was leased to Iowa State University (ISU) for farming for many years. To assist with the Water Pollution and Control's (WPC) Nutrient Reduction goals, part of the farmland was converted to prairie in the Spring of 2023; and, WHEREAS, ISU is still farming approximately 24 acres of ISU land directly west of the Moore Memorial Park prairie. ISU has decided to stop farming this area and is willing to lease this to the City at no cost; and, WHEREAS, under the agreement, the City would convert the farmland to prairie and manage the prairie thereafter in accordance with the City Park Rules and ordinances. The land shall be used only a public park for the benefit of the residents of the City of Ames and the students, employees, and guests of ISU. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the lease agreement with Iowa State University for 24 acres of land adjacent Moore Memorial Park is hereby approved for a term of 20 year, commencing on July 1, 2026.
