MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
AMES AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (AAMPO)
TRANSPORTATION POLICY COMMITTEE
AMES, IOWA JANUARY 27, 2026
CALL TO ORDER: The Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO)
Transportation Policy Committee meeting was called to order by Ames Mayor and
voting member John Haila at 5:59 p.m. on the 27th day of January, 2026. Other
voting members present were: Bronwyn Beatty-Hansen, City of Ames; Gloria
Betcher, City of Ames; Amber Corrieri, City of Ames; Tim Gartin, City of Ames;
Rachel Junck, City of Ames; Anita Rollins, City of Ames; Emily Boland, Ames Transit
Agency Board of Trustees; Erich Kretzinger, Boone County Board of Supervisors;
Lisa Heddens, Story County Board of Supervisors; and Jonathan Popp, City of
Gilbert.
CONSENT AGENDA: Moved by Betcher, seconded by Rollins, to approve the
consent agenda.

Organization Transportation Policy Committee Meeting on January 13,

Vote on Motion: 11-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
HEARING ON AMENDMENT TO THE FFY 2026-2029 TRANSPORTATION
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM: Transportation Planner Kyle Thompson, alongside
Public Works Director Justin Clausen, presented the amendment to the FFY 2026-
2029 Transportation Improvement Program, noting that it was the same amendment
that was presented to the AAMPO Transportation Policy Committee two weeks prior.
The amendment included an electric vehicle charging station project by the Iowa
Department of Transportation and multiple CyRide projects. Planner Thompson
reported that during the required 10-day public comment period following the
previous meeting, no public comments were received on the proposed amendment.
Mayor Haila opened and closed the Public Hearing when no one came forward to
speak.
Moved by Kretzinger, seconded by Corrieri, to approve the amendment to the FFY
2026-2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
Vote on Motion: 11-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
POLICY COMMITTEE COMMENTS: Council Member Betcher expressed concerns
about potential restrictions on municipal and county levies being considered by the
state legislature. She emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate funding
for transportation programs, street and road maintenance, infrastructure
development, and CyRide operations. She urged state legislators who might be
listening to consider the impact of such restrictions on local transportation systems.

p.m.
Vote on Motion: 11-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
