RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUEST FROM GOOD NEIGHBOR
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO CLOSE CLARK AVENUE BETWEEN
6TH AND 7TH STREET FROM 1:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.
ON SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2026, FOR STREET PARTY
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance (GNEA), located at 613 Clark
Avenue, requested to host a kickoff event with a gathering on May 17, 2026, to celebrate
the work the organization does and those it serves; and,
WHEREAS, although the event takes place mainly on private property, the event
organizers are requesting the closure of Clark Avenue between 6 th and 7th Streets for
event activities; and,
WHEREAS, Clark Avenue is requested to close at 1:00 p.m. and reopen at 8:00
p.m., with the scheduled events taking place between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, event organizers have secured the use of the Fareway Parking lot for
temporary portable toilet locations and parking; and,
WHEREAS, planned events taking place are a musician and various yard games;
and,
WHEREAS, organizers expect approximately 250 attendees and have provided
staff with an Emergency Safety Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that the request from Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance to close Clark Avenue
from 6th Street to 7th Street on May 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., is hereby
approved.
ADOPTED THIS 28th day of April, 2026.
