HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Resolution approving MOU to apply for Grant Funding for Justice Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program RESOLUTION NO. 26-214 RESOLUTION APPROVING MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO APPLY FOR GRANT FUNDING UNDER THE 2025 U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (JAG) FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the Police Department has received notice that it is eligible for grant funds through the 2025 Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program; and, WHEREAS, grant funds may be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, as well as research and evaluation activities that will improve or enhance law enforcement programs related to criminal justice; and, WHEREAS, because the Story County Sheriff provides jail services for the county, the grant conditions require that the Sheriff participate in the grant application for funding under this JAG program; and, WHEREAS, the Police Department proposes that the City enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with Story County for acquisition and use of the funds; and, WHEREAS, total funding potentially available to the Police Department and the Story County Sheriff’s Office through this grant offering is $17, 525, and there is no match requirement with this grant; and, WHEREAS, the Police Department is proposing to use the funds to send staff to a Crisis Intervention Team conference and provide supplemental mental health and officer wellness training to staff, purchase smart sequential road flares, purchase two high quality binoculars, and purchase two police cameras. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Memorandum of Understanding with Story County to apply for grant funding under the 2025 Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program , is hereby approved, and authorization to apply for that grant is hereby further approved.
