RESOLUTION APPROVING STAINING THE PRECAST CONCRETE PANELS
OF THE FITCH FAMILY INDOOR AQUATIC CENTER
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, at the October 28, 2025, City Council meeting, staff along with
representatives from RDG and Story Construction, described the mottled appearance of
the gray, sinus wave precast concrete panels on the exterior of the Fitch Family Indoor
Aquatic Center; and,
WHEREAS, staff indicated this was not the look the City was expecting and the
contractors on the project investigated possible causes and potential resolutions to this
problem; and,
WHEREAS, on March 17, 2026, the application of three different colored stains
were applied to a mockup panel. Staff preferred Rushing River over the other two colors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that staining of the precast concrete panels with the Rushing River color at the Fitch
Family Indoor Aquatic Center at no cost to the City is hereby approved, contingent upon
staff completing a test run with a satisfactory result.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of March, 2026.
