MINUTES
PUBLIC ART COMMISSION

March 3, 2026
Call to Order
Chair Candace Zwank called the meeting of the Public Art Commission (PAC) to order
at 5:34 p.m. In attendance were Theresa Stromberg-Murphy (Vice Chair), Julieanne
Rogowski (Secretary), Greg Rowland (Treasurer), Kyle Hauswirth, Donna Hoff-
Grambau, Joseph Merchant, Janice Reutter, Ratnesh Kumar, Ray Schmidt, Tom
Lindsley, and Brian Phillips (City of Ames Staff Liaison). Karen Kedrowski and Manu
Agnihotri were absent.
Approval of Consent Agenda
Moved by Hauswirth, seconded by Reutter, to approve the Consent Agenda, including
the Minutes of the February PAC meeting and March Treasure’s Report.
Vote on Motion: 11-0. Motion carried unanimously.
Public Forum
• Laura Beskow presenting on Picture Yourself a Pollinator
o Noted working on a public art project with the Rotary club and Outdoor
Alliance of Story County to promote Ames being a pollinator-friendly city
o Requested PAC consider recommendation to the City Council to accept
the piece as a donation to the permanent art collection
o Laura planned to ask about the warranty and materials and get back to the
commission
o Moved by Hauswirth, seconded by Merchant, to recommend to the City
Council accepting the donation of the artwork “Picture Yourself a

Pollinator” contingent on its installation.
Vote on Motion: 11-0. Motion carried unanimously.
Report of Commission Subcommittees
• Collections Management
o “A Particular Family” had damage reported and will be repaired under
warranty along with other pieces with ongoing warranty issues
o The subcommittee noted looking at other pieces with warranties that will
be up soon
• Outreach
o None
• Public Relations
o Reported lots of success on social media with the art of the week posts
o Discussed potentially creating posts with scavenger hunts (created with
the help of the entire commission) and advertising events
o Rowland suggested interviewing the artists of the incoming AAOSE pieces
as well as the AMES pieces
Chair Comments
• Zwank planned to submit the applications for the Art Walk and Art Fair this week
City of Ames Liaison Report/Comments
• Brian and Carly were working on an art tour within City Hall for the residents of
Green Hills
• Brian suggested waiting to put out a call for artists for Schainker Plaza until some
of the construction work on the project is completed in May
• Brian also suggested that PAC may want to investigate having the terracotta
reliefs from the pillars that used to be along 5th street installed in Schainker Plaza
on the wall along the bank

• Carly and Parker were working on an easement for the piece of art purchased for
Neighborhood Art this past year as the proposed placement was in the vision
triangle
• No update on Media staff taking pictures of art pieces

• Renewal of Bylaws
o Moved by Merchant, seconded by Hauswirth, to approve the bylaws as
written.
Vote on Motion: 11-0. Motion carried unanimously.
• Discussion of Theme for 2027 Calendar
o Stromberg-Murphy planned to work with Carly to create a Call for Artists
with a theme of closeups of pieces of art in the City’s collection and would
present it at the next meeting

• Elections and subcommittee sign-ups were scheduled for the April meeting

Moved by Hauswirth, seconded by Reutter, to adjourn the meeting at 6:38 p.m.
