Next Regular Commission Meeting scheduled for January 22, 2026 COMMENTS: ADJOURNMENT: MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE AMES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION AMES, IOWA NOVEMBER 20, 2025 The Regular Meeting of the Ames Civil Service Commission met in regular session in Council Chambers of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, with Commission Members, Kim Lunduska, Chairperson, Harold Pike, Co- Chair and Larry Conley present. Also in attendance Commission Clerk, Vicki Hillock and Erin Clanton, Brick Gentry P.C. Human Resources Director, Bethany Ballou, was brought in telephonically. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF OCTOBER 23, 2025: Moved by Pike, seconded by Conley, to approve the Minutes of the October 23, 2025, Regular Service Commission meeting. Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. CERTIFICATION OF ENTRY-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Linduska, seconded by Conley, to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Entry-Level Applicants: Environmental Engineer I Kristin Stein 83 Mirna Surendra 80 Prapti Shetty 75 Jam Khan 69 Shushan Wu ** Ashkan Naghdi ** * Includes preference points ** Indicates carryover from prior certified list Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried. CERTIFICATION OF PROMOTIONAL-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Conley, seconded by Pike, to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Promotional-Level Applicants: Power Plant Maintenance Foreman Todd Safly 77 Chris Sprong 75 * Includes preference points ** Indicates carryover from prior certified list Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried. COMMENTS: The next Regular Meeting will be held in-person(weather permitting) on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 8:15 am in Council Chambers of City Hall. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 8:20 AM. __________________________________ _______________________________________ Kim Linduska, Chairperson Vicki Hillock, Commission Clerk MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AMES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION AMES, IOWA DECEMBER 2, 2025 The Special Meeting of the Ames Civil Service Commission was called to order by Chairperson Kim Linduska at 9:30 a.m. on the 2ND day of December 2025 in Council Chambers in City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law. Present were commission members Harold Pike. Also in attendance were Erin Clanton, Brick Gentry P.C., Legal Counsel for Commission Members, Renee Hall, City Clerk, and Commission Clerk, Vicki Hillock. Commission member Larry Conley was absent. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Moved by Pike, seconded by Linduska to approve agenda. Vote on Motion: 2-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Moved by Linduska, seconded by Pike to approve minutes from October 17, 2025, and November 20, 2025. Vote on Motion: 2-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. APPROVAL OF JEROME WARD APPEAL: Erin Clanton, Brick Gentry P.C. stated the Assistant City Attorney received a settlement offer from appellant. She requested time to review said offer. Commission members discussed dates for new hearing. Moved by Linduska, seconded by Pike to set new hearing dates for January 15 and 16, 2026. Vote on Motion: 2-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. Box 811 Ames, IA 50010 www.CityofAmes.org Human Resources Department MEMO Date: Thursday, December 18, 2025 To: Civil Service Commission From: Bethany Ballou, Human Resources Director Subject: Remove Names and Exhaust List from Certified List for Civil Design Technician On the agenda for the December 18, 2025, Civil Service Commission meeting, the Commission will discuss a request from City staff to remove names from the certified list for the Civil Design Technician classification, which was approved on October 23, 2025. William Crystal – Candidate declined job offer in November 2025 Dillon Sanders – Candidate withdrew from consideration for the available vacancy in December 2025 Section 4.5 (Removal of Names from Certified Lists) of the Civil Service commission Policies and Procedures states: “A person appearing on a certified list for original appointment shall have their name removed from the list by the Commission whenever that person… refuses an interview or an offer of appointment...” and “requests not to be considered for an available vacancy.” No candidates would remain on this list. Section 4.2 (Curation of Entry Level Eligibility Lists) of the Civil Service Commission Policies and Procedures states: “When a list has diminished to three or fewer candidates, the Commission may declare the list exhausted.” Staff requests that the Civil Service Commission remove the above name s from the Civil Service list and exhaust this current list so we may continue with an open recruitment. There was 1 candidate certified to this list. Section 4.2 (Curation of Entry Level Eligibility Lists) of the Civil Service Commission Policies and Procedures states: “When a list has diminished to three or fewer candidates, the Commission may declare the list exhausted.” Staff requests that the Civil Service Commission exhaust this current list so we may continue with an open recruitment.
