RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF FEES FOR ELECTRICITY
USAGE AND FEE FOR BLANKET VENDING LICENSE FOR AMES
MAIN STREET FARMERS’ MARKET
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Ames Regional Economic Alliance is planning to host the annual
Ames Main Street Farmers’ Market this summer, which will take place in the 200, 300,
and 400 blocks of Main Street and on Burnett Avenue from Main Street to the U.S. Bank
drive-through; and,
WHEREAS, the Market will operate on Saturdays from May 2 through October 17,
2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, the use of electricity in Tom Evans Plaza, along Main Street, and on
Burnett Avenue has been requested, along with a waiver of the fee; and,
WHEREAS, organizers are also requesting a blanket Vending License fee for
vending be waived for the entire Central Business District from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
each day of the Market, which will allow Downtown businesses (that file an insurance
certificate with the City) to display items for sale on the sidewalks; and,
WHEREAS, the Main Street Farmers’ Market has successfully attracted visitors
to Ames Main Street for the last several years, and it has become a signature event in
Ames, enhancing the local economy and providing a family-friendly activity that
showcases the Ames community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that the request to allow usage and waiver of electrical fees and waiver of fee for
blanket Vending License for the Main Street Farmers’ Market on Saturdays from May 2
through October 17, 2026, are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of February, 2026.
